Method of identifying
natural cotton from synthetic:
There are two physical and chemical methods used to identify cotton.
Physical diagnosis:
We attach a thread of cotton thread to the flame. If it is normal, it flames
quickly and continues to burn away from the flame, and after turning off the
gray smoke comes out and gives off the smell of burnt paper.
2- Chemical detection:
To identify cotton chemically, we need 70% sulfuric acid, a human, a means of
producing heat, paper, and filtration.
After preparing the required 5 grams of cotton fiber used in the taropod carpet,
then pour about 100 ml 70% sulfuric acid into the beaker and add 5 grams of
cotton fibers and boil for 20 minutes. The above fibers become filamentous
during this time and then dissolve. Pass the solution over the filter paper (we
have already determined its weight) and then dry the filter paper and solution
and determine its weight. If we subtract the weight of the filter paper from its
previous weight, the remaining weight of the cotton fibers becomes known.
